First published in 2007, the Travel & Tourism Competitiveness Report” provides a platform for all stakeholders to discuss and improve the industry’s competitiveness in their national economies. It contains the “Travel & Tourism Index” (TTCI) a composite index that measures “the set of factors and policies that enable the sustainable development of the Travel & Tourism sector, which, in turn, contributes to the development and competitiveness of a country”.
The index has been developed in the context of the World Economic Forum’s Industry Programme for Aviation, Travel and Tourism, and in close collaboration with our data partners Bloom Consulting, Deloitte-STR Global, the International Air Transport Association (IATA), the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) and the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC).
We would also like to acknowledge our partners in the industry community, namely AccorHotels, Amadeus, AirAsia, Emirates, Etihad Airways, Gulfstream, HNA, Hilton Worldwide, Iberostar Group, Intercontinental Hotel Group, Jet Airways, Jumeirah, Marriott International, SAP/Concur, SpiceJet, Swiss/Deutsche Lufthansa and VISA.
The TTCI measures 14 pillars, organized in four broad factors “subindexes”.
- The Enabling Environment subindex, captures the general settings necessary for operating in a country and includes 5 pillars: 1. Business Environment, 2. Safety and Security, 3. Health and Hygiene, 4. Human Resources and Labour Market, 5. ICT Readiness.
- The T&T Policy and Enabling Conditions subindex, captures specific policies and includes 4 pillars: 6. Prioritization of Travel and Tourism, 7. International Openness, 8. Price Competitiveness, 9. Environmental Sustainability.
- The Infrastructure subindex, captures the availability and quality of physical infrastructure of each economy and includes 3 pillars: 10. Air Transport Infrastructure, 11. Ground and Port Infrastructure, 12. Tourist Service Infrastructure.
